Anhinga (Anhinga anhinga) Continued.
The pictures on this page are all of breeding Anhingas. Note the bright blue-green of the skin around the eyes during the mating season on both the male and female. Also, make note that the gular pouch below the bill has now darkened during breeding. They build their nests high in a tree using sticks, leaves, and grass. This particular pair was part of a large colony of breeding Anhingas, Cormorants, and various species of herons.
The female to left is in her breeding posture aimed at getting the attention of a male. Both male and female will fluff their wings and bend the head back and raise the beak toward the sky.
