Mute Swan
Mute Swan (Cygnus olor)
Native to Europe and Asia, they were first introduced into North America as a decorative waterfowl for parks and zoos. By the early 1900’s, a number had escaped into the wild and Mute Swans can now be found from New England south to Florida. Although their name is “Mute” Swan, they are not mute, but their calls are quiet and do not carry very far.

The swans can be a very aggresive bird as is shown by his confrontation with the small Ring-necked Duck in the photo below left.
