Black-necked Swan
Black-necked Swan (Cygnus melancoryphus)
Black-necked Swans are easily recognized by their white body and black neck and head.  They have a white stripe behind the eye.  The bill is blue-gray with red caruncles (fleshy enlargements of skin at the base of the bill).  The feet are pale pink.  Males and females look alike, but females may be slightly smaller.  Juveniles are mottled with grayish and brownish-tipped feathers. Photographed in Polk County, Florida.
Mute Swan (Cygnus olor) Continued

The three photos below were taken in Polk County, Florida. The photo on the right makes me smile. I can just imagine that swan looking at her mate and saying "You know, Henry, I can still see you!"

Ok, I got carried away and added a few feathers in the photo at the left. He just looked so dejected and there was a trai of feathers out behind him.
